Casterojeriz to Frómista

We are now in Frómista, snuggled up in an albergue where we are the only guests (very odd). After the horrible sleep last night I was dreading walking 25 KM today. Both Abe and I were awake at 5 and instead of waiting around, we got ready and were out of the hot, terrible albergue at 6:15 AM. We knew that we had one hill today, but we had no idea how high it would be! Not only could we see it for quite some time (thanks flat Meseta), it also was situated within the first 5 KM of our walk.

We were, however, rewarded at the top with a beautiful view of the sunrise!

(this photo was taken looking back at another hill)

Totally worth the early morning even though we were grouchy from lack of sleep.

Beasting hills before 7:00 AM!

The rest of the walk today was quite flat and boring. At one point I got so bored that I put in my headphones and sang out loud at the top of my lungs (Abe joined in too occationally). There was no one around since we had gotten a head start so only we could hear our terrible singing.

When we made it into Frómista, my Achilles tendon was really aching so I asked Abe if we could stop at the first albergue we came to. Apparently no one else felt the same way since we are the only ones in a room built for 20. After napping and getting worried about the lack of people, we ventured into town to see the two cool things in this city: the canals and the old Roman church.

We sat in the square soaking up every ounce of sun we could get and while there we saw many of our friends (all at other albergues, and almost all not having good experiences either). Now we have eaten supper and are ready for a good nights rest and a shorter day tomorrow!

Buen Camino!
