Abe's Pro Tips

If you plan to visit cities before and after your pilgrimage, plan how you will ship clothes for those cities beforehand.

As you already know, we visited Paris before the camino and plan to do some vacationing afterwards as well. We didn't want dine in Paris wearing dry-fits and chacos, so we brought along extra clothes figuring we'd send them ahead to Santiago. While we knew where, and to whom we wanted to send our extra clothes, we didn't know exactly how we were going to ship it.

We decided it would probably be cheaper to ship from St. Jean so we didn't worry about it in Paris.

BAD Idea!

Not only did we have to look like dummies who were lugging around too much luggage for a pilgrimage...

But, by time we got to St. Jean the post office was closed. That meant we were stuck with our huge extra luggage overnight and would have to delay the start of our journey until the post office opened in the morning. Luckily, the awesome people at L'Esprit du Chemin (seriously stay there if you ever find yourself as a peregino in St. Jean) helped us find a lady who would take our pack to Santiago saved what had been a frustrating day.

Problem solved, but lesson learned.
